ANI is working on monitoring key innovation indicators andrankings and the results of innovation programmes coordinated and managed or supported by ANI. In addition to the availability of the main indicators that influence or result from the innovation process, the evolution of Portugal in the main international innovation rankings is also available.

Innovation Indicators

Using various national and international sources of information (such as EUROSTAT, OECD, INE, Community Innovation Survey or the European Innovation Scoreboard), some indicators related to the innovation process in Portugal are available, namely input and output indicators (results). For a better understanding, the indicators were grouped into 8 areas (Human Resources, Excellence and Attractiveness of the R&D System, Funding for R&D and Innovation, Collaborative Networks, Intellectual Property, Innovative Companies, Economic Impacts and Information Society), and these can be displayed dynamically.

Innovation and Business R&D Surveys in Portugal

• NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL POTENTIAL SURVEY - Annual Survey of Enterprises, State, Higher Education and IPSFL which counts human resources and expenditure on R&D, following criteria agreed on a European level by EUROSTAT and in conjunction with the OCDE. The official R&D statistics in Portugal are produced from this survey.
• Community Innovation Survey (CIS - Community Innovation Survey) - A biennial business survey that collects official statistical information on Innovation in Portugal. The CIS is a notation tool of the National Statistical System regulated by the European Union that measures and characterises the companies’ innovation activities. It is carried out under Eurostat’s guidance.
