PERIN 2019 “+Science, +Europe” Conferences are held between March and April, with diversified sessions in various parts of the country, in order to stimulate the reinforcement of Portugal's participation in the European research and innovation programmes. This is a first cycle of conferences, but other events will follow until the 2019 Science meeting, 8th-10th of July 2019.
The fact that we are two years away from the completion of the current European Research and Innovation Framework Programme (i.e. the Horizon 2020 programme) and the prospect of defining the major funding options for the European Union for 2021-2027, including the start up of the new European research and innovation framework programme (i.e. the Europa Horizon programme), the Digital Europe Programme and the European Space Programme, should serve as a stimulus to promote and deepen new European science, technology and higher education networks and the field of digital transformation, in close coordination with research and innovation activities. These networks must also be in conjunction with and complement our positioning in the world, from our Atlantic window to the unique relationship that we have or that we can come to have in the development of Europe’s relationship with Africa and with Latin America. Internationalisation naturally includes the attraction and mobility of human resources, but it also includes joint institutional development, joint recruitment of teachers and researchers and programmatic development at European level.
In addition to the pursuit of these objectives, it is our ambition to reinforce and duplicate Portugal's participation in the next European Research and Innovation Framework Programme (i.e. the “Europa Horizon”) in relation to the current Framework Programme (i.e. “Horizon 2020”) ); stimulate participation in the new digital and space programmes; and to stimulate and promote national participation in the important contests under the scope of Horizon 2020, which are expected to take place in 2020 and which will bridge the new programme.
It is within this context of the national priority that the promotion of research and development (R&D), innovation and digital transformation activities has been undertaken within the framework of public policies and their effective insertion in the European context. The on-going evolution of the , created in 2007, for the Framework Programme Promotion Office (GPPQ), created in 2007, for the “PERIN - Portugal in Europe Research and Innovation Network”.
The PERIN network includes:
- Group of Delegates, National Contact Points and European Programmes Experts;
- Portugal-Europe Liaison Office for Research and Innovation, - set up in Brussels (i.e., “Portugal in Europe Research and Innovation Liaison Office”);
- Network of linking elements in Research and Innovation (i.e., “Portugal in Europe Liaison Officers”), set up in different partnerships and international organisations;
- Network of Centres for the Promotion of Research and Innovation within the framework of European Programmes, to stimulate national institutions of Science, Technology and Higher Education, including universities and polytechnics, research units, among others.
